Flash in the Pan

It's hard adjusting to a new way of life, new roads, restaurants, location and climate. I have noticed my taste in food changing as well, I find myself leaning more and more towards warm things like soups and Hot Cocoa and less of the fruity or salad infused options. New routines are also beginning to pop up, such as craving more books to read. At night, when it drops down to the low 40º's all I want to do is crawl under the covers with a good book to read. Which brought to mind the last time I felt this way; when I was a little girl. I remember being taken to the library, back then (and still now) felt like being led to the Holy Grail. I'd spend hours perusing the Children's bookshelves for just the perfect reads. I feel young and alive again now, as I once did then.

I'd like to ask you, what were some of your childhood favorites? And what are you reading now?

Vintage bag and wool blazer, Urban Outfitters ballet flats and tights, Posh Pants sequin shorts, Hermes scarf

Gotta love thos trees!!!

My favorite (childhood) books were the Harry Potter series. They are still my favorite books to this date.

I think it is funny that you posted this, I have been feeling the same way.

Although, I always do in autumn, that is part of why I love it.

Every fall I reread the Harry Potter series. Just out of tradition, and nothing could be better. The books really come alive in my mind, like a movie in my head, and I love it.

Especially on nights like last night, when it is so cold outside nothing but being under the covers feels right, and then you put the book down, and realize it is one in the morning, and you haven't done your homework.

Owwwwww amazing shorts :) love it... can I ask you something? What do you do in your life? study? work? I decided to ask this because I really love your outfits but for exemple, in Portugal I can´t work with this kind of clothes... the boss doesn´t like it but I wish to work with fashion and crazy clothes someday :)

This post reminded me of when I relocated from Baltimore to Cleveland- you wouldn't think it would be much of a difference but it was! The weather is a lot drier and obviously colder up here, sometimes all I want to do is stay under the covers too! Moving sucks, especially trying to navigate new roads and highways. Good luck with everything!

Oh and the sequin shorts are amazing!!

Hmmmm! My favorite childhood has to be in the early stages of me indulging in the television series Punky Brooster, Blossom, and the Cosby's. For some weird reason, they actually made me love clothing. I was Punky Brooster 2 years in a row for Halloween, and I wore that crazy blossom hat to school for a whole semester - haha! The Cosby's was my favorite, because I would be nailed to the floor, never blinking, in my older brothers huge blazer, my thermal jumper, and the best P&J sandwiches my mom ever made. I would always imitate the styles since they seemed to be bright, layered, and kind-of-not typically matching. I loved it...That's me :D

Great post :D
Love your short, I have a sequined skirt I'm lusting over for nights out!

I love how you paired those shorts with the tights. Very cute.

Currently, I'm reading Great Expectations for the first time, for class. Sadly, I'm not enjoying it much. Recently, I read Jane Eyre and Revolutionary Road, which were both fantastic! I def. recommend both if you haven't already read them.

Great outfit! :) I especially love the sequin shorts.

As for books, I grew up reading the Sweet Valley and Baby-Sitters Club series. You have no idea how thrilled I was to find them in my local bookstores. I also love the Harry Potter series, but then again, who doesn't?

I'm now 20 and I still can't outgrow books for young people. I'm currently reading the third book from The Mysterious Benedict Society series. I know it's for kids, but it's actually interesting.

The fact that someone wrote that the Harry Potter books were their favorite childhood reads scares the shit out of me. I am old, apparently.
My childhood loves were Roald Dahl's books. Now, I literally read everyhting that is literature. I dislike non-fiction, but other than that I have few criteria.
Some favorite writers being Nabokov; Cormac McCarthy and Palahniuk.
You look beautiful and something about the setting is so appealing to me.

Sequined hotpants are amazing things that everyone should own. My favourite children's books were always Roald Dahl's... often a bit twisted, not perfect fairy tales and paired amazingly with scribbly Quentin Blake illustrations!

If you like the paranormal, unsolved and mysterious ---> READ anything by Sylvia Browne. Atlantis, Aliens, Bermuda Triangle, Crop Circles, the Pyramids and more get explained.

@ Patty - I did too, I used to collect the Sweet Valley twins series... will look into The Mysterious Benedict Society :) right now!! (loooove your tumblr btw, just can't figure out how to leave you a comment there?- but am following yours!)

@ Louis Duke - Harry Potter is so fun. The books are the best movies in my mind, as well! Just saw Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD last night, have been seeing the first 3 films lately on these cold, cozy nights- but the books are tremendously better!

@ Anon. 8:32 - awwe, thanks :)

@ Miss Red - get some, will add some pizazz to any look <3

@ Calista - thanks I love that :)

@ Karen - I love a great Spiritual book. And Topshop is dangerous, online (or off!) ;)

@ Tayler - wow, thanks, that means a lot <3

@ Cat/Cathy - Yes, that does sound interesting, have always been intrigued by the Bermuda Triangle, considering I used to live near it and fly over it quite often O_o as well as wondering more about how Crop Circles appeared!

The way you feel now sounds so beautiful. It seems like you are seeking for shelter in the books you read to help you adjust to the new environment - you'll make it, girl! One always thinks it's so hard to adjust to new situations, but in fact it's pretty easy if you just let the situation come to you.
Some of my childhood favourite books were...
. Le Voyage De Théo by Catherine Clément, which is actually an adults' book and it's really beautiful
. The Clarice Bean series by Lauren Child, which are really cute and I still love them. What a pity she doesn't write those books anymore
. Rychlé Šípy by J. Foglar, which is a Czech series which already exists since the 30s
. The Lord Of The Thieves and Wild Chicks by Cornelia Funke
. The Moomin books by Tove Jansson
. The Harry Potters by J.K. Rowling
. Molly Moon by Georgia Byng
Right now I'm reading
. Resurrection by Tolstoy - it's actually really hard to read
. The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien
. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K.Rowling...

I recommend all of these books warmly! Let me know if you tried to read any of these ;)
Are these photos taken in your new garden?

Childhood favorite is hands down The Secret Garden. I swore my aunt's old house held one I just failed to find it. I went back as a grown up and realized it was all just a bunch of shrubs and dead rose bushes but at age 9 it seemed like a giant sleeping garden. It reminded me of these photos you took here and of bows in the hair.

Current reading; Garden Spells. Again because I love it so much and it reminds me of The Secret Garden and of magical greenery.

As for books I liked when I was younger - I loved the Chronicles of Narnia, the Adventure series by Enid Blyton and The Phantom Tollbooth.

Right now, I'm reading a lot of books targeted to Young Adults, namely because it's for my Young Adult Materials course (yay library school!), so a lot of books like twilight (i know, cliche), but also The Book Thief, Uglies, The Graveyard Book, The Knife of Never Letting Go, etc.
