Subconscious, but also conscious, Inspiration.
Since I have lately taken to sharing my outfits with you more frequently, I only found it fitting to also share some of the inspiration behind my thinking when it comes to picking these certain ensembles. Welcome to my world, behind the scenes, so to speak.
• The coffee table book, Influence, penned by Mark Kate and Ashley Olsen, is a widespread collection of interviews featuring iconic legends in the Fashion realm. These are some noteworthy Q and A sessions with the likes of Mary Kate and Ashley's own personal private muses.
• A teeny, tiny, stuffed, black French poodle. A past Holiday present I have yet been able to part with. She seems so very French to me and her given name is Orange Marmalade.
• The beautiful red sequined hair clip in the shape of a bow, so fitting for the little part of Dorothy in us all. "There is no place like home, there is no place like home, there is no place like.."
• Sex and The City, the movie. Yes, I felt the series was better on television, only because it delved deeper into the individual characters' lives, but finally getting to see Big and Carrie and their marvelous romance on the big screen? Kind of a blockbuster moment too. Not to mention the shoes, shoes, shoes and more shoes. Was I the only one enamored by Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe yet again!? I think not!
• Heart shaped sunglasses in a light flirty pink? Check. Because the girly girl in me said so. Thank you, Suzanne. ;)
• Nylon magazine. It's as if all of my favorite editorial and photo blogs got married and had this beautiful little baby! Doesn't hurt that many of my favorites have graced their hallowed halls and donned their best to be captured for the cover; Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, Leighton Meester, 90210's entire female cast, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen, and Zooey Deschanel, just to name a few.
• The Tudors. Season 1; because that's all I've seen so far (one episode left to go before I can move onto Season 2) and because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Henry Cavill.. that's all!
• A Year in Fashion by Pascal Morche, which I had to purchase when I heard my good friend Lissa was getting it. Hello, a book so thick you can't carry it with only one arm, and totally loaded with fashion? And Audrey Hepburn is on the cover? YES, YES, YES!!!!
• My trusty Composition notebook, filled with doodles, recipes, notes, ideas, quotes, song lyrics, wish lists and anything else worth jotting down. I carry "her" (yes, her) with me everywhere. I call her Jules.
• The most beautiful color in the world to me, is purple. So it is only natural to state how much I adore my decadent lilac ring from Ice.com.
• The tiny periwinkle twinkle between Influence and my Composition notebook belongs to a ring my Mother surprised me with some odd three years ago. It was exactly the bauble I needed to finish off my look for my Cousin's wedding. I treasure it for the many memories that come with it, every time I wear it.
• Framed Audrey Hepburn photograph. Taken from an Audrey Hepburn picture fan book, I had to preserve her in frame. This is my favorite still from Breakfast at Tiffanys. The hairstyle, Givenchy dress, pearls, sunglasses, croissant, gloves, Tiffanys!

This is such a terrific post! I absolutely love Nylon as well, it's maybe my favorite publication out there, and the Sex & The City movie wardrobe is to die for! Seriously, totally worth watching just for the clothes.
I have Influence, love it! And yeah the Sex and the City movie was ridiculous but I still think of the green dress and green coat ensemble Carrie wears in one of the first scenes - perfection!
Interesting post!
I love Influence so much, it's the kind of book that you can keep checking over and over again & not get bored. Your composition book is such an amazig idea, it must be really valuable for you too!

Great post, full of inspiration.
My inspiration items aren't so well defined and collected yet..
I love your post today! Thanks for sharing everything that inspires you!

Audrey <3 <3
I am in love as much as you are with Audrey Hepburn. There was something so effortless about her, she was naturally graceful and elegant but there was also something intelligent and wise about her. She was modest and kept to herself and I loved that about her.
I even went to a Cecil Beaton exhibition in the museum and he photographed Audrey, I was overwhelmed.
She is an enigma to me.
i love this post. Awesome stuff you've got! I love how you framed a picture of Audrey Hepburn just to preserve her. Cute. :P love it. along with the pink sunglasses! LOL.
And yes, Influence is amazing. A great read. I love MKA, i swear. Although A Year in Fashion is intriguing.
I love your blog, your photos, your style, everything! you rock! :)
I love Audrey Hepburn !
This is such a lovely post! I love hearing about the inspirations of others. I love Audrey too, she was the first vintage icon I ever really discovered and even now my Auntie always gets me a little something with Audrey on at Christmas!

Hey Erika this is like an open window into your own personal icons and private idea box = I love this concept.
Can't wait to see more outfits too.
Andy had his muses like Edie and paint and tomato soup cans. And now we have YOU. ;)
Cat! x
Working on a new blog post soon. Hope you like it! http://littleplastichorses.blogspot.com
I've been dying to get my hands on Influence since it came out, but could never bring myself to spend the $40. I looked through it and know it is absolutely inspirational.

l o v e your inspirations beauty.
YOU are a inspiration.
have a gorgeous week ahead.

*the SATC ladies have kept me from going crazy during these past 2 weeks.... especially season 6 where carrie goes to paris. that was ME in africa. what impact they have on my life- " i love you, but i love myself more" ;)
Great little article about how we are influenced by what we are exposed to. This is why traveling, observing other people,reading...simply keeping our eyes and minds open to new ideas is so important. How easy it is to grab a pair of baggy comfy jeans and worn old t-shirt...and how boring.
You get out of life what you put into it...and you Erika are certainly doing your part inspiring us out here in "Mostly Boring Fashion Land". Thanks!
this is such a good post - it's so interesting to read about all the things that influence you. i'm a hugeee nylon fan too :)

I'm the same with my moleskines. I couldn't live without them.
I've been meaning to get Influence at some point - I'm not a huge fan of their style per se (as in I wouldn't try and copy it for me) but I love how they think and would love to know why they wear what they wear.

Such an amazing post, it's always nice to see more of a blogger's life and influences besides their outfits, isn't it? :)
The SatC movie is one of my favorite feel-good movies! Always makes me cry and happy at the same time! And Audrey - can she be more perfect? I don't think so!
I wish we got Nylon here, I've always enjoyed the scans I can find from it.
And I admit, if I catch The Tudors on HBO I don't ever take in the plot but boy, oh boy, do I ever remember every last of Jonathan Rhys Meyers shirtless scene ;))
I adore Sex and The City!!!it`s my fav movie)

I love those photos! I have "A Year In Fashion" too!
Oooh, seeing influences is awesome. I saw a peek into "Influence" in a magazine and it looked absolutely enchanting, I bet I could browse it for hours.
That stuffed poodle is so cute! I love stuffed animals!
In the "Southern Belle" post, I love that third picture of you where you are up close and the sequinned hairclip is gleaming in the sunlight... so BELLE!
I loved the soundtrack of SATC-The Movie too, for example "Labels Or Love" by Fergie.
Heart shaped sunglasses are a classic.
Yeah, Nylon is awesome. It's so modern and has an awesome design and content.
I bet your composition notebook Jules is a hundred times more fascinating than INFLUENCE ^^

Oh, and by the way: I just recently found your blog and I enjoy reading it very much. I love the music you have on here, too!
I relate to so many of your muses. It's necessary and fun to have some. Art gives me a lot of inspiration, and the city of Paris. This fall I'll be taking art classes... in Paris!
Influence is so well-done, I look at it often for inspiration.

That was a beautiful post....I have to say I enjoyed it even more than your outfit posts, which are amazing as well of course. Probably because I can identify with everything you said, inspiration is so important in life!
